The first step is to schedule your complementary consultation with Dr. Lisa. Choosing a healthcare professional is an important decision and can be stressful when you don’t know what to expect. We want to make sure your experience in our office is as comfortable as possible.
This is your opportunity to ask questions, visit the office, and learn more about the care provided without any financial obligation. You can share any health concerns you are having and ultimately what you want to get back for your life.
During this visit, you can expect a brief history and postural screening to determine if you would be a good fit for Upper Cervical Chiropractic and/or Functional Wellness care.
DAY 1: Initial Exam and X-rays
Your first visit will be the most time intensive because we want to gather all the information necessary to provide the best care possible. Dr. Frisk will perform a detailed history, physical/neurological exam, and baseline posture measurements. Specific NUCCA digital X-rays will then be taken to determine the direction and degree of your spinal misalignment. These x-rays are a critical part of ensuring that the spinal correction is accurate and successful. The analysis of these x-rays calculates a precise, customized adjustment that will impact the whole spine.
At this point your visit is complete. You will be scheduled for your report of findings within a few days. This will allow Dr. Frisk to thoroughly analyze your x-rays and determine the best course of care to maximize your health.
DAY 2: Report of Findings and First Adjustment
This is an exciting visit! Now is the time to take action and start your journey to restoring health! Dr. Frisk will present a report of findings and your personalized treatment plan, followed by an adjustment.
The NUCCA adjustment itself is performed to the upper neck (Atlas vertebrae) and is similar to having your pulse taken. The amount of pressure is just enough to slightly dimple the skin. There is absolutely NO cracking or twisting of the neck or spine in the NUCCA upper cervical adjustment. Once the initial adjustment is made, you will enjoy 20 minutes of relaxation in our zero-gravity recliner. This allows your adjustment to settle in and take the pressure off of your spine.
Then, post-adjustment x-rays will be taken to verify that the misalignment is being corrected according to plan. The post X-ray analysis is used to determine if the top vertebrae in the neck (Atlas) was properly returned to its neutral position directly underneath the center of the skull. Also, measurement of the neck is calculated to determine if the head and Atlas are balanced appropriately. Further adjusting will be necessary if proper structural balance was not achieved. This is verified by the post X-ray film analysis.
The night of your first adjustment and into the next day you may feel sore – almost as if you just went skiing for the first time of the season.
The foundation for your overall health is based on proper spinal alignment, nutritious foods, regular exercise, high quality supplementation, and a variety of stress relief techniques. Remember, no healing process happens without time as an essential element.
While many patients get sudden relief, long-term stability and correction of your upper cervical misalignment takes time. While symptoms can fade away, long-term stability and health can take months to achieve. As the body goes through a healing process and retraces back to health, you may experience periods of fatigue, muscle tightness and/or soreness. These symptoms are temporary and are a good sign that your body is adapting to the structural changes. As you hold your adjustment, your body will heal and stabilize; allowing you to live optimally.
